[He seems indifferent as response. It’s true, he has no clue where he is, a duck knows his name, and in truth, he doesn’t care what’s going on. He’s trying to survive, that’s all. Yet, despite knowing his name, the duck doesn’t fear coming near or touching him. Akutagawa carries a reputation he remembers. So.. yes, there will be questions.]
[ A... little insulted by that, but she keeps it down. Given the Time Troubles going on, she's not certain places like cafes will still be around to give them food. But she can scavenge yummy stuff in the forest! ]
No, I'm a kid just like you. I just look different! But back to you! So, your clothes can shoot fire? That's really cool! Does it wear you out, or are you guys like a team?
[Scavenge through the forest? He’ll help, picking up tasteless weeds. As for everything else, he wasn’t about to try any stranger plants or mushrooms. Webby continues to gain more stars here.
Look different. Okay, valid. As for her question—]
I didn’t know I could shoot fire until today. I saw you shoot a ball like that and tried something like that with my ability.
[To be honest, it would had been very helpful back with his clan. He flexes his fingers while staring down at his palm.]
[He didn’t answered the man’s question, he’s trying to fight hard as he can while the small dark-fabric lizard still biting down on the man. Instead, he snarls.]
Let me go!
[He refuse to listen to the man’s word. It was fight or flight mode, thinking of the worst possible scenario, survival is a must. While he’s trying to fight the man’s grip on both of his arms, something falls off the boy’s scarf, a small piece of paper, and thankfully, it’s readable. Scribbled there it reads:
Ryuunosuke Akutagawa
Please be cautious. If found, mention Odasaku and curry. Please return him here (Insert address here)]
[ Maruki does let him go then, just as much from the barked order as from the pain, blood soaking into his sleeves from bite after bite. Perhaps if he wasn't regularly attacked by his housemate on a near-daily basis, he would have a stronger reaction to injury. As it stands, the pain is only irritating– and a little heartening, actually. Even for as small as Akutagawa is at the moment, he can still defend himself in a place as volatile as Somnius.
That piece of paper catches his eye. Maruki grabs it before Akutagawa can, holds it up to the light to read, and– ]
You know Oda-san?
[ Disbelieving. Almost stunned. What the hell were the odds...
He glances over at Akutagawa, tries to hold his gaze without inciting another attack. ]
I cooked curry for him a few weeks ago? He's a friend of mine.
The way Inigo description of ‘friends’, Akutagawa just stared. Them? Himself and the tiger? Friends?? He cast a glance at Atsushi, then back to Inigo. It was laughable. In fact, it makes this young man bark in response.]
[Yeah, he’s lost and perhaps concern? Curious? He knows he’s somewhere else. This isn’t the slums he was used to. There are strange creatures, then there’s the duck. He’s asking this while surprisingly calm. When will this boy show emotion?]
No, Gin doesn’t have powers. She’s… [Hmm, he glances up at the cracked sky.] Kind and nice. A fighter. Wise. And she makes good weed stews.
[Once Ryuu was released, the tiny fabric snake let’s go as well. He fumbles forward, catching himself mid-air. The paper is the least of his worry. Before he was about to go, lunging a bit forward, Maruki’s question forces him to a halt. He froze, turned his head to the adult in question.]
He is?
[His whole demeanor changed to something calmer. That’s all it took. Stunned as well, the young boy fell quiet. The once sudden quake subdued, for now. He turned his head forward, nodded.]
[Oh right, that man’s injured. So, he turns around facing the adult and—]
My apologies. I thought you were someone bad.
[Though there is no sign of empathy from his expression, hopefully his words and stare was enough. Following Maruki’s suggestion, the young child looks down at the apples he found, then nods.]
It's alright, Akutagawa-kun. You were just protecting yourself.
[ Or... His coat was just protecting him... Well, whatever. After Oda whisks him away, Maruki can get that good good healing juice from Azathoth and be right as rain. Until then–
He wipes blood off on his pantleg before pulling his phone out of his pocket and scrolling shakily to un: odasaku ]
[ Little glance down again. Good, he's eating the apple. Maruki moves to begin assembling a quick grab bag of snacks from The Conbini Snack Drawer, careful to keep his blood to himself. ]
I think he was just hungry. And frightened. But he's alright.
I did. Thankfully, it seems to have worked. [There's a brief moment of quiet as Oda's teeth worry against his bottom lip. When he speaks again, there's an anxious edge to his voice, nearly pained. It's more emotion than he usually shows.]
He's a reactive kid. Someone could easily get hurt. If he hadn't happened to run into you, maybe someone would have hurt him...
Thanks again, Maruki-san. I'm coming to the door now. Let him know I'm the one knocking, would you?
[ That palpable concern in Oda's voice is a new sound, but not an unfamiliar sentiment. Maruki feels it all the time for Eren and Akechi; it's an intense empathy that he feels for Oda, suddenly. His voice gentles further. ]
Okay. Don't worry. He really is fine. You'll see in a minute.
[ And then, hanging up, he comes around out of the kitchen, gesturing for Akutgawa to follow. ]
That's Oda-san at the door. Would you like to open it yourself?
[Akutagawa continued to nibble his apple carefully, not too fast, while the adults are talking. He heard some of the conversation, mostly from Maruki. Kids be curious.
Then, a knock echoes from a door, which sets off alarms from Akutagawa, his eyes widen, fixated at the door until—-
Maruki mentioned Oda.
His expression soften, following a nod as he walks to the door.]
Odasaku-san.
[No biting, but instead, he corrects Maruki. He reaches for the knob and turns to open the door slowly for the man of the hour.]
[For someone as non-expressive as Odasaku, the warmth that floods into his expression when he sees little Ryuu is simply unmistakable. Immediately, he squats down to the boy's height, letting his arms hang open in case Ryuu would like to be held. He always lets the boy come to him first.]
Hey there, Ryuu. I heard you met my good friend Maruki-san. He's pretty nice, isn't he?
[A glance up for the other man. He's likely to notice blood if there's any visible; regardless, his expression is subtly apologetic, and quite plainly grateful.]
[ There is indeed blood! Quite a bit of it! The long sleeves of his shirt are more red than they aren't, but he's smiling all the same, holding a kitchen towel wrapped around one arm and giving a thumbs up with the free hand.
It's sweet, seeing Oda like this... It must have been how he looked when Akechi was returned to him. They both have volatile little guys they're fond of.
But otherwise, he's just going to stand back and let them reunite. No need for more snake bites. ]
