[ One morning, as your character steps out of their home, they are greeted by an owl messenger, bearing a letter. The letter tells them that they have been selected to participate in a gift exchange, and they are to deliver a gift to Princess Jasmine by the end of the month. The letter says nothing more, and once the letter is read, the owl will fly away. ]
Hello, Akutagawa. This is Meryl Stryfe. I’m working on putting together a survey for both new and old arrivals, and I was hoping you might be able to give me a few answers! It’s mostly to figure out where everyone’s interests lie, and to see if we have any commonalities between each other! I’ve included a form down below to fill out. Just respond to this message and I’ll get to work on tabulating the results.
Thank you!
[As promised, there is indeed a form that can be filled out! Looks pretty straightforward! It's definitely for what Meryl describes, and not for anything else!]
Atsushi: A collar and a bowl of chazuke. Kyouka: rabbit tag and a pair of chopsticks Inigo: A blade with a long dragon engraved on it. Blake: fish hair clips with chocolate brownies. Webby: pair of blades close to her size. Vax: three grenade with an easy pull pin, including instructions how to use them, a long coat and block of chocolate fudge. Levi: various teabags with some chocolate fudge. poncho Baby Puppet: Geta sandals and a book of Pinocchio. Vil: Chocolate brownies and a hair pin with a thank you card.
Secret Santa: Princess Jasmine: Jasmine, chamomile, and lavender tea with some stationeries
[On December 25th, Akutagawa will find a box on his porch containing candied figs, a variety arrangement of herbal teas, and a box of fresh chocolate-filled croissants from the local bakery. There is a note attached that reads thus:]
Hey. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to tell you this since the whole thing is supposed to be a secret, but I figure now that it's done, it doesn't really matter. My name is Eren Jaeger. An owl left me a letter that I was supposed to deliver you a gift for Christmas. Kinda weird. We don't really do this where I'm from. I hope you like it anyway.
- Eren
P.S. I know your friend Atsushi. That's how come he got something too.
[ Akutagawa will find several presents sitting outside his door, wrapped in black wrapping paper with purple bows. One squishy package is a big comfy black blanket, perfect for winter. The other is unwrapped; a bamboo case containing freshly made dumplings with spicy tuna filling. ]
[We’ll this boy is good at One Thing, and that’s making swords. So here his friend Akutagawa is receiving a sword- but it’s a small one! He remembered his friend saying he did not need one to fight, but small blades are versatile! Could arguably use it in the kitchen even!
So there’s a small tanto blade wrapped up in simple paper. Oh and there’sa cute little cat face carved into the sheath. Cats are nice.
There’s also what appears to be some sort of attempt at a frying pan. It’s a tad lopsided, but useable.]
To my friend Akutagawa, I know you said you do not need a sword, but I do not know how to make other things and I wished to make you a gift because you are my friend. I tried to make you a plan but it was not very good, so I made you a small blade instead. It is good for cutting things that are not people.
It is also good at cutting people so please be careful with it. It is sharp. -Kanoa
[ Inigo may not have known that the sword came as a gift from Akutagawa. He didn't even guess he was the anonymous sender. No, that's not the reason the other will find a gift in return - it's just that Inigo was planning on giving him a gift regardless..
The gift is a bouquet of flowers, vase included. The flowers are purple hydrangeas, and there's a card included with them that reads: ]
I am still not fairly sure whether I truly understand this holiday tradition, since it is foreign to me.. But it is true that people give gifts to the people important to them, right? I certainly consider you an important friend, so I hope you enjoy the flowers. Please make sure to share them with Atsushi too!
Greetings,
Inigo
P.S. Have you ever heard of flower language? I will save you the effort of having to look up what purple hydrangeas mean. They stand for a deep desire of wanting to learn more about someone.
[Akutagawa is waiting to close the door, and he told Inigo to catch his breath. Still..
With a slow bow of the head, something shoots off his black shirt, a tendril, whipping and ready to catch the young boy Inigo and hoist him in the air. No warning or threat. Akutagawa felt the need to use Rashomon to carry this boy until he’s able to breathe properly.
And maybe carry him inside so he can close the damn door! How you like to be a rag doll for a while Inigo?]
[Too early indeed. Akutagawa’s posture stiffened again, shaking his head lightly denying this. He must not think of that. What was it he regained after being here? A moment, something came to mind as he looked down his cup.]
My life.
[He recalled the last flicker of life he had before departing his home world. Alas, much more will happen later on and, it’s pretty grim, as his expression.]
[It’s noticeable, the heat from the tiger brushes against Akutagawa’s face. Akutagawa exhaled a soft breath with a small ‘heh’ as he finally retracted himself upright again, a palm covering the lower part of his face.
Honestly, he seemed like he was expecting something, but alas, he found himself hasting himself again. He felt himself tempted like taking a bite of a forbitten fruit in the garden of Eden. Akutagawa cleared his throat, with a minor color of red across his face. For now, he had to restrain himself, least out here.]
[Atsushi blinks at Akutagawa, red still flushing his face and giving his whole monochrome look at least some color aside from his eyes.
Akutagawa said words. Yes, words. He should be able to understand them, but his brain is slow on the uptake and needs a moment to register what exactly Akutagawa has said. Eventually, they sink in, and Atsushi understands the meaning, blinking himself out of his trance and out of the moment that felt just a bit weird, just a bit too personal, but at the same time, way too good.]
Right. Uh. What place exactly?
[he only just arrived here, until a few moments ago he still thought this was some kind of .. dream, or video game, or a video game within a dream, but .. now there are apparently places to go?]
[It didn't take long to track Akutagawa down. Oda is no Ango when it comes to intel, but he still knows how to gather it. This kid hasn't exactly been discrete...]
Akutagawa-kun. It's Oda. [Will that be a shock? He's supposed to be dead.] I'd like to talk to you. I'm sure I don't have to explain the predicament I've found myself in.
Edited (I'm adding suffixes cause it's fun) 2024-08-10 08:33 (UTC)
[Well, it shouldn’t be hard. This man been here for more than a year. It takes a moment for Akutagawa to reply. He’s staring questionably at his device as the message place. He still remembers this person, and Dazai’s words about him. Finally… Akutagawa hits reply as well, video on. The once young teen now older, but his features stayed somewhat the same.]
No need. [He’s surprisingly content. As if talking to a mafia member.] You fell deeper into a rabbit hole, Odasaku. How was your trip?
[Good thing Oda went gently there because the kid was ready to eat the whole glass, leaning closer and all. It’s enough to pass his lips, and it’s funny because his eyes are half-closed.
There is a big ‘ahh’ sigh after a good drink. He unplugs his ears, taking a deep breath and exhales… nothing. He looks at himself, blinking, almost inspecting himself. Half believing it.
He rests a hand on his chest, where he initially felt them before. Still nothing. Now he looks up to Oda.]
On the night of the 24th the quiet flapping of wings could be heard outside as Arrakis delivered his gifts. He didn’t have his wind magic anymore so he couldn’t silence his approach completely and he quickly placed a box next to the door. He stifled a small shiver. By the goddess it got cold at night. He had more gifts to deliver though so he turned to leave. If you are fast you might catch him before he takes to the skies again.
Inside the box is a card written in fancy calligraphy:
Happy Holidays Akutagawa, Arrakis Faylare
Inside the box is a small bag of homemade chocolates in the shape of a swirling wind. The chocolates are dark chocolate with coffee and cinnamon (the cinnamon is because Arrakis wanted to give Akutagawa the same comfort he was given when he was unwanted) The chocolates also have a medium amount of spice to them.

[ Technically he was only gone gone for about a week, but chilling out in some weird magic coma doesn't count as 'back' in his mind. ]
What happened while I was out?

Chuuya. Welcome back.
[A soft high pitch voice replies… with a hiccup of coughs. Perhaps welcoming his executive wasn’t the best idea but hey.]
Target practices and a mess. Perhaps it was fortunate you missed the events.

There's a spot on Starlight Cliff that's secluded - hidden on a somewhat untrekked path towards the bottom of it.
[There's not a single place here that feels private, but that came close enough.]
